You probably won’t appreciate the advice from friends who tell you that you should be grateful for a job in an office environment instead of unemployed or digging ditches in extreme weather conditions.

No, what you are looking for is your true career destiny. You know, the one you love that utilizes your talents and pays you well. There truly are people out there in this category. I am not talking about the rich and famous, either. There is a sea of opportunities out there if you are willing to focus your energy and commit to finding your dream career. In order to give you a little guidance and a boost, this article provides some information about work from home careers. Because there are schemers and scams out there, this article also warns about some common work from home scams to avoid.

Work From Home Careers

If you have a phone, a computer, and internet access, you can work from not only home, but from just about anywhere in the world. Even the beach in your dream can be a reality if it exists on earth! Your current employer may be the place to start, depending on the work you do. Even if you manage others regularly, meet regularly with co-workers in person, or serve clients in person each day, you may be able to convince your employer to let you work from home for some portion of the day or week. He teaches you step by step to gain some independence and then eventually take the leap to complete independence if you choose.

There are many work from home careers. Our absolute favorite idea is building an online presence with a blog (website) and selling products or services you strongly support and agree with. If you are really creative, you can create your own products and services and offer them on your blog. Or, you can refer people to buy from existing programs and earn affiliate commissions when they make a purchase. If you have some terrific ideas to share and train others with, you may consider writing a eBook and selling that online.

Another popular home career is network marketing or multi-level marketing. While some people consider this business idea a scam, that is not accurate. The truth is, in this business you will need to develop excellent selling and networking skills. You will build a team of marketers like you who will consume products/services and sell them to others as well. You can network online or offline or both to build your own business. Since it’s your own business, you will have some costs for products and business building. It’s not for everybody, but the opportunity is legit. Usually the products/services in these programs are very high quality and offer unlimited income potential as well as residual earnings for a lifetime.

Another of the work from home careers we like is various types of consultant work. You can be a life/business coach, a paralegal, an accountant, or whatever kind of consulting work you are good at. Sometimes you may have to travel or show up in person, but the opportunities are wide open as your imagination. You can charge fees by the hour, or work on projects that go for months and pay by the project. If you are one of the great ones in your field, you can make a great living. One downside in consulting is that you usually don’t get paid unless you are working. In the other types of work from home careers mentioned above, revenue comes in even when you sleep.

The last type of work from home careers are administrative types of work. These can be specific jobs or you can be self-employed. Some examples are data entry, paid surveys, and virtual assistant. You usually get paid by the hour, but some opportunities pay through rewards or points. Be especially careful to do your research with these opportunities, because you will find some work from home scams in this category as well. If they ask for an investment from you up front, run in the opposite direction. This brings us to the next topic:

If you ever see advertisements for HYIPs (High Yield Investment Programs), these are Ponzi schemes and are not safe or legit. The potential returns are huge and so is the risk. Don’t fall for these. Con artists will seek to persuade you that solid financial institutions are backing the investment.

Another of the work from home scams is getting paid to surf the web. Many people have lost money with this type of program. If we had This is just another kind of Ponzi scheme. The idea is that you click and visit a specific list of websites each day and get paid to do this. But the fact is that you only get paid when another person joins and does the same thing after you.

Some other common work from home scams are envelope stuffing, data entry, medical billing, and home product assembly. First of all, even the truly legit opportunities in these categories don’t pay very much for the amount of work you have to do. Secondly, many programs out there over-promise and under-deliver in the terms and the pay. Some just get you to send money to get started and then disappear with your money. Others make it difficult to get paid for the work you do. These are best to avoid. You will save time and money by looking at other opportunities.

As you can plainly see and understand, there are plenty of work from home careers and work from home scams. If you are thorough in your research and patient in making a decision, you will find some good opportunities. If you really are tired of the corporate rat race, you are best off by building your own home business. What are your talents? Are you good at writing or networking with people? Are you good at crafts or making new creations? Do people come to your for advice and wisdom? All of these skills can make you a good living if you are willing to take a risk and go for it.
